"The house is a fully-fledged culture, a world to be shared every day. Let’s learn the art of living better at home"
Designed and built in partnership with Cendrine Dominguez (D'Home Productions) on 800 m2 of land just next to the Maison Folie Wazemmes (Lille), this temporary construction of 250 m2 is a unique space at the crossroads of an ecological museum and the new energy technologies of the future.
a unic house A place of life and communication, the external walls display the drawings of a traditional home in India. Handed down from mother to daughter, these hand-painted drawings depict the main themes of people, fauna and flora.
a exceptional visit Beyond the majestic door, visitors walk through the garden and reach the core of vital energy: the living areas; a music room and a room where guests are received for table d’hôte dinners on sofas. Without realising it, the visitors are transported to another continent that is so far away, yet so near.
Inside, the centre of the house where there is always much activity is surrounded by a walkway which tells the stories, experiences and moments of daily life in India through showcases. 12 showcases explain and help visitors discover the India of yesterday and today and show them what a sustainable dwelling is all about.
The visit begins with Jodhpur, the blue city, then everyone is invited to take part in Diwali, the festival of light. This profusion of light will be the occasion to point out its beneficial effects with luminotherapy and explain how it is used today to illuminate and enhance a monument or a town.
The visit continues further on the trail of Indian traditions. Following the rickshaw will take you along sandy paths to discover the transport of tomorrow. On the way, a stopover has been scheduled so that you can attend an Indian wedding. The family will certainly be the best of hosts.
India is the country of silk, so it would be out of the question not to follow family traditions with particular focus on saris, fabrics and crafts. India has a major textile sector that cannot be ignored, nor can that of the Nord Pas de Calais region. Both receive all the attention they deserve during the visit.
And how to speak of India without dealing with the theme of spirituality omnipresent in the life of each Indian. Visitors will learn all there is to know about religions, rites and gods before returning to the Old Continent where Indians have largely exported their culture.
The last 3 showcases form a bridge between India and France and show what actions are needed to live better at home, protect our environment and future generations, discover the new energies, the “ecological home” and the technological challenge so as to know what is being done today in order to defend tomorrow.
