One of the 9 commitments of the EDF Group's sustainable development initiativeis to promote access to energy and energy efficiency. Respect for others and commitment to the community are part of the Group's corporate culture. Providing assistance to people living in poverty and promoting energy education are a major challenge that forms part of the company's social responsibility efforts. In France, this responsibility is specifically mentioned in the public service missions that EDF must participate in.
The Group companies, including EDF in France, offer their customers tips on energy use to lower their bills and assist them with finding solutions to pay for their electricity, whether they entail the application of adapted rates or co-payment from public funds.
Moreover, they are involved in fighting energy poverty by establishing partnerships with charity organisations to support for instance efforts to improve the energy efficiency of the homes and appliances of vulnerable households.
At EDF, the Social Council was created in 2008 with a membership of independent experts to challenge the company on its societal commitments.
